Self-Titled (Hoka)
Spray Paint & Acrylic Paint on Canvas
36" x 24"
2024

The concept for this painting began when I used to work graveyard shift in the surveillance department in a casino. I used to use MS Paint to create very basic preliminary ideas for paintings. I took a stock photo of a bowl of fruit and used it as a "fill-in" or the interior of lettering as would be used in Style Writing (aka graffiti art.) I followed through on the idea when I began creating new work for my MFA studies. This was the first piece I created that used this idea of fine art painting for the interior of the lettering. This piece is currently on view in Convergence X Crossroads at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
